Maren Springsteen – Spun Gold

by Matt K.

“It is a deplorable mistake we make when we try to understand poetry. Poetry is not to be understood. Poetry is to be felt. Poetry is to be loved. To try to understand a poem is like touching a rose with innumerable thorns. To try to feel a poem is to lovingly hold a rose without a single thorn. And to love a poem is to grow immediately into the beauty and fragrance of the rose itself.” ~Sri Chinmoy (1990)

Spun Gold: Poetic Reflections of Pure Luminosity is an inspirational collection of non-dual, mystical poetry from poetess Maren Springsteen.

Maren has such a gift of envisioning the present, the past and the future [seemingly all at once]. It’s easy to get “lost” in its splendor! The words seem to flow like an infinite stream. The two words that come to mind are love and light.

As Peter Dziuban writes in the foreword, “It may sound like a cliché, but this is not spiritual cola—it is like fine wine, and the best way to appreciate it is to savor it slowly. Don’t be in a rush, even though each line beckons you on.”

I couldn’t agree more!

To that I would like to add that reading the book in complete silence is an entirely different experience as well—try it. One’s pure essence is flowing through these words… a connection of the soul.

The book also includes two excellent articles from the heart. One being the postscript called Being is Seeing which includes some lovely pointers and many spiritual recommendations and teachings. Maren also sheds some light on where her writings are coming from. And the appendix, with detailed notes on a favorite book called “Standing As Awareness” by Greg Goode that provides a roadmap towards the integration of awakening.

Maren states: “The theme of this book is universally applicable, no matter where one lives, our intrinsic interconnectedness as fellow human beings on the surface…and even more so, distinguishing between what is ultimately real and eternal, unchanging, ever-present, fresh and (always for the first time and at the deepest core of Life), what is illusion presented by the five senses until no more separation is felt or known and or how to understand the difference and how to let go of what isn’t the substance and glue as well as substratum underlying all illusion—Pure, unconditional Love and Presence.”

Although all the writings are imaginative and of high quality, I hold One Without A Second-Radiance, Moonlight Sonata, Magnificent Splendor and The Open Heart as personal favorites.

You can view a sample of her writing here entitled My Heart Just Shines.

Spun Gold is available from Lulu and from Amazon [Kindle and print version]. Very inspirational and highly recommended!

  1. Beautiful elucidation Maren ! Esp the following lines “The theme of this book is universally applicable, no matter where one lives, our intrinsic interconnectedness as fellow human beings on the surface ! Would love to go through the collection !

It is the connection that arises from feeling that is more important while reading a poetry than the mere words !

  3. Maren’s poetic imagery is inspirational, written from the heart with penetrating beauty and the openness of wonder. Every written word has been felt, experienced, and so this artistic work is stunningly sincere. At the same time, Maren’s poetry covers vast terrain, accessing the most delicately spun web of interconnection.

From Maren’s heart, “Spun Gold” will take your own heart on a wondrous journey of soulful, spiritual relevance.

@ Yogasharan: Thank you so much for your kindness ! By divine synchronicity, a few minutes before I saw this Editor-in-chief’s lovely surprise in my inbox, I was guided tonight to make the kindle version available for free to download on amazon for the next two days, dear Yogasharan, or lend it for free for 14 days. Amazon has already opened the lending bit and is working on the free download, might take a few more hours, hope this helps! Namaste!

  7. Thank you Matt for posting this, and thank you again Maren for writing it! Susan Kahn said it above – since every word is felt/experienced/LIVED by the author, the reader can’t help but “taste” it, too.

I think I’m getting intoxicated again on the “fine wine.”
